Freewriting Assignment 4 - July 2, 2012

Title: Judgement of others

This is something we have all met before. Whether it was in our past, present, or in our future, we will all be judged or do judging towards others. I can admit, I'm guilty of this sin. When you see someone walking down the street with an arm full of tattoos, or wearing skinny jeans with a skateboard in their hands, you will most likely judge them. This happens to all of us and we need to work to control this better. I am constantly judged by people who don't know me for the music I listen too. I listen to music that isn't the socially accepted "normal" type. The same people who judge me for this think I am a horrible person, break the law, have a bad attitude, or I'm a trouble maker. The reality of the situation, I am a very nice and generous person. I think everyone is capable of good and I'm always willing to help others, regardless if I know them or not. I am not simply bringing this up because it happens to me, but because it happens to everyone. Everyone is raised differently, and has friends who were raised close to the same way they were. These are large contributors to the way some people think. We need to work better as a country to not judge people so quickly. Instead of looking at someone and thinking how ignorent they look, try to get to know them. You two could become friends! I work my best to not judge, but it's human nature that is built into us by centuries of judgment from our ancestors. Because of judgement, we have hate crimes, murders, and robberies for no reason. This is a very tough goal for anyone who attempts it. I'm a perfect example of why people are judged too quickly. If I were to tell you that I listen to bands such as Slipknot, Korn, Murderdolls, Misfits, and Terror, what would you think about me? Well, I do listen to those bands, and a lot of others such as Maroon 5, Chris Tomlin, Casting Crowns, Keith Urban, and George Straight. Do you think differently of me now? I wear Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, and American Eagle clothing. That's more information that just changed your opinion about me. Yes, I listen to music that sounds "evil" as most people would say, but I also listen to Christian, Country, Classical, and Rap. I want you to remember this information for the next time you see somebody and judge them. Their outward appearance could be one hundred percent different from the way they truly are. I am working very hard to stop judging others, and I suggest you do the same.
